A key worker is your main point of contact and support when your family is receiving early childhood intervention or disability services. Their role is to make things simpler and more coordinated for you, so you don’t have to tell your story over and over again or juggle multiple appointments.
Your key worker builds a strong, trusting relationship with your family and works alongside you to help your child learn, grow and take part in everyday life.
How a key worker supports you and your family
Your key worker will:
- Get to know your family’s goals and what’s most important to you.
- Work directly with you and your child, showing you strategies and activities you can use in everyday routines like playtime, mealtime or getting ready for kinder.
- Coordinate your team of professionals (such as speech pathologists, occupational therapists or physiotherapists) so that everyone is working together.
- Help you navigate services and systems, including the NDIS and local community supports.
- Build your confidence so you can support your child’s learning and development every day.
